Historic Germantown Second Saturday Festival

Saturday, May 14, 2016 - 12:00pm to 5:00pm

Historic Germantown will open for the 2016 season on Saturday, May 14th with a special community festival in Market Square. Experience "Freedom's Backyard," sixteen historic sites located in Our Nation's Longest Historic Corridor and celebrate 330 years of fascinating cultural heritage. This year Historic Germantown has partnered with Germantown United CDC to promote the Germantown community as a whole and encourage visitors to see the sites, eat at the restaurants, and walk the business corridor.

The festival kicks off the Second Saturday series, when all 16 Historic Germantown sites are opened up for the season to the public for monthly visits and tours. Discover the many thriving cultural, civic and business activities that make Germantown an exciting place to live and visit.
The Community Festival will feature:
  • A special dance performance by BalletX, Philadelphia's premier contemporary ballet!
  • Event MC, Philadelphia Poet Laureate Yolanda Wisher
  • Live Music
  • Food Trucks
  • Art & Craft Marketplace
  • Historic Re-enactors
  • Family Friendly Programs
  • Free Bus Tours to Historic Germantown Sites (registration required, please register at www.freedomsbackyard.com)
Participants will be able to hop aboard two air-conditioned buses with our experienced guides and two of the esteemed Historians collaborating on Historic Germantown's Pew Center for Arts and Heritage supported project, Elephants on the Avenue and discover the neighbor's fascinating history.
