Zero Waste Lunch & Learn

Saturday, January 14, 2017 - 11:00am to 1:00pm

Lecture and Lunch with Urban Scholar Alisa Shargorodsky, founder of Zero Waste Consulting and Education

Gain insight on the impact of waste generated at the global, local and individual levels. Solid waste isn't something we can afford to ignore. It is a very complex problem that affects our water, soil and air quality. Our entire commerce system is predicated on the production of waste, to the extent that avoiding waste can seem like a daunting and impossible task. What can we do in our own personal lives to improve reduction of waste, at the source? Alisa will show us how to mine our potential for positive change and inspire us to radically modify the way we handle our most basic domestic chores. Attendees will receive an extensive resource list in addition to enjoying a zero waste lunch. $10/person: Click here for more info and to reserve.

Driven by passion in her field to improve urban centers and support communities in developing a stronger understanding and commitment to resource preservation, Alisa has several years experience working with a variety of companies and organizations, supporting them with a full systems analyses, and assisting in behavior modification which results in 90% diversion rates. Alisa lived and worked in Fort Collins, CO. While at Green Logic, she held the position as Outreach Coordinator and Compostable ware accounts manager from 2006 to 2010. Prior to that, she worked with Village Earth; a consortium for village based development. In 2011 she returned to the Philadelphia area, where she is originally from and attended the University of Pennsylvania. Her most recent research involved a team of 20 volunteers who assisted in an audit of four commercial corridors throughout the city of Philadelphia. The study collected data from more than 400 food-service establishments; she believes that global information systems and data analytics can be used by cities around the world to improve source reduction and further the development of circulation systems aimed at the prevention of single use materials.
